How AODD Pumps Work – Pneumatic Diaphragm Pump Working Principle
An AODD pump (Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm pump) is a pneumatic positive-displacement pump that uses compressed air or nitrogen to move two flexible diaphragms alternately. The diaphragms are mechanically connected, while check valves control the direction of fluid flow. SANDPIPER describes this operating principle in its official technical documentation.
AODD Pump Working Principle
1. Compressed air enters the pump
Compressed air enters the pump through the main directional air control valve. The valve directs air into one of the pump's air chambers, applying pressure to the back side of the diaphragm.
2. One diaphragm performs the discharge stroke
The air pressure pushes the diaphragm toward the liquid chamber. Because the two diaphragms are connected by a common shaft, movement of one diaphragm causes the other diaphragm to move simultaneously.
The pressurized diaphragm pushes the fluid toward the discharge outlet.
