What Is an AODD Pump?
AODD stands for Air-Operated Double-Diaphragm pump. It is a pneumatic fluid-transfer pump powered by compressed air, or in some applications natural gas, rather than an electric motor. AODD pumps use two diaphragms connected by a common shaft. Compressed air alternately moves the diaphragms, creating suction and discharge strokes that transfer the fluid through check valves.
According to SANDPIPER's AODD technology overview, AODD pumps are particularly suited to demanding fluid-handling applications because they can operate without electricity, run dry, self-prime, handle solids-laden fluids and operate in submerged conditions.
